HEALTHY EATING AND NUTRITION POLICY

Diyafah International School’s Healthy Eating and Nutrition Policy aligns closely with the ADEK Healthy Eating and Food Safety Policy, aiming to promote students' overall well-being and academic performance through proper nutrition and safe food practices. The key components of this policy include:

Healthy Food Choices: The school promotes the consumption of nutritious foods by offering healthy meal options in the school canteen. This includes a focus on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and dairy products while minimising the availability of processed foods high in sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats.

Food Safety Standards: The school adheres to strict food safety standards as outlined by ADEK, ensuring that all food served is prepared and stored under hygienic conditions. The canteen staff undergo regular training in food handling, preparation, and storage to prevent contamination and foodborne illnesses.

Nutritional Education: Nutritional education is integrated into the school curriculum to help students understand the importance of healthy eating habits. This education aims to encourage students to make informed food choices, understand nutritional labels, and develop lifelong healthy eating habits.

Parental Involvement: The school encourages parental involvement in promoting healthy eating by providing resources and guidance on packing nutritious lunches and snacks. Workshops or information sessions may be organized to help parents support their children's nutritional needs at home.

Restrictions on Unhealthy Foods: The policy restricts the sale and consumption of certain unhealthy foods within the school premises, including sugary drinks, candies, and fast food. Special attention is given to ensuring that any food brought from home aligns with the school's healthy eating guidelines. Diyafah International School is a nut-free school.

Allergy Management: The school takes careful measures to manage food allergies among students. This includes clear labelling of food items, educating staff and students about food allergies, and having protocols in place for responding to allergic reactions.

Promotion of Healthy Eating & Physical Activity: In addition to focusing on healthy eating, the policy promotes regular physical activity as a complement to good nutrition. The school organises physical education classes, sports activities, and active play opportunities to support students’ physical health.

Student Feedback

Students are involved through the Student Council in organising a survey through ‘Microsoft Teams’ to generate feedback on the quality of Healthy Eating and Nutrition in the school.

Special Considerations

The school provides a student allergy and intolerences list to the canteen provider to be kept with their records.

This policy is regularly reviewed and updated to align with the latest health and safety standards provided by ADEK, ensuring a supportive environment for students' physical and mental well-being.
