Studying and homework are a vital part of our school lives. However, with exams right around the corner, it can be difficult to focus on balancing our work and play. That's why at Diyafah, we have recently introduced a program called the Playground Pals.
My name is Smriti, and I'm the leader of the Playground Pals program. Initiated as an approach by the prefects of Diyafah, the Playground Pals are aimed at promoting and instilling the idea of a work-life balance for young children.
Every week, Monday to Thursday (with the exception of exam weeks), Secondary's capable Playground Pals (Year 8 and above) teach children from Years 2-5 a variety of games to play. These games help develop their abilities to work as a team and are really fun!
"We really enjoy spending time with the children," say Stacey and Pranya from Y8G2. This program couldn't have been possible without Ms. Lois in primary. Every few weeks, Ms. Lois and I coordinate the classes into a rotation, from Years 2-5, so each class can have some quality time with the Playground Pals.
"The children really enjoy this opportunity to get to know the Secondary students," says Ms. Lois, "They learn many new activities"
We've taught them games that will improve their mental maths problems. I remember playing duck-duck-goose as a kid, and to see that childlike glee reflected in the faces of the primary students is quite a sight.
Starting out as a tester, this program has developed into something else.
Mr. Vincent Walters, the Vice Principal of Secondary says, "".
So a shout-out to all the Playground Pals- Pranya, Stacey, Mehul, Pranav, Misagh, Sarmad, Yusuf and Taha:
Let's keep this bright light of fun shining at Diyafah!
