WALKING HOME ALONE POLICY FOR KEY STAGE-3 TO KEY STAGE-5

The safety of students is a top priority. As per ADEK Policy…. Key Stage 3 (11-14) Key Stage 4 (14 – 16 Key Stage 5 (16 – 18) are permitted to walk home alone.

  1. Eligibility Criteria

    Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5 require parental permission to walk home alone.

  2. Parental Permission

    A signed consent form from parents or guardians is required for students to walk home alone. This form includes: (Appendices -A)

    • Confirmation that parents/guardians have assessed the route and consider it safe.
    • Acknowledgment of responsibility for the student's safety once they leave school premises.
    • Parents should provide up-to-date contact information.
  3. Safety Guidelines for Students

    • Walk in groups whenever possible.
    • Stick to well-lit and well-populated routes.
    • Avoid shortcuts through isolated areas.
    • Be aware of traffic and use pedestrian crossings.
    • Do not engage with strangers or accept rides.
    • Inform parents/guardians of their expected arrival time.
    • Carry a charged mobile phone for emergencies.
  4. School Responsibilities

    • Educate students on personal safety and responsible behaviour while walking home.
    • Ensure staff are aware of which students have permission to walk home alone.
    • Provide supervision at school exits to monitor departure.
    • Respond promptly to any concerns raised by students or parents about walking routes.
  5. Emergency Procedures

    • Students should know how to contact emergency services.
    • In case of emergency, students should seek help from trusted adults or safe places like shops or community centers.
    • The school should have a clear protocol for handling incidents reported by students or parents.
  6. Review and Monitoring

    • Regularly review the policy to ensure it remains relevant and effective.
